U Minh Forest includes two parts: U Minh Thuong is the upper, the lower is called U Minh Ha. Between U Minh Thuong and U Minh Ha is Trem river and Cai Tau river. Coming here, you can not escape the feeling yourself small in front of the majestic unspoiled nature.The forest has 6- month underwater indigo forest ecosystems, and 6-month drought. U Minh Ha National Park is one of the three core areas of the Biosphere Reserves. Ca Mau Pole is responsible for conserving, reproducing the value of the natural landscape, ecology and biodiversity of wetland ecosystem characteristics, indigo forest on peat soil; conservation and development of genetic resources of plants and animals, the value of culture, spirituality, historic sites, and serving the scientific research, sightseeing and tourism development.
In U Minh Ha forest, indigo trees are absolutely dominant. There are many animals such as deer, wild boar, monkey, python, snake, turtles, pangolin … and there are 60 species of freshwater fishes and brackish water fish living here.
Especially under the forest canopy, bees are diligently throughout the year seeking for nectar and pollen from the indigo flower to build their nests which annually brings here a large volumes of honey to residents here. During bees season, visitors will have chances to follow the bees worker of Phong Bank Group to go to the forest to take the honey. Here, tourists can enjoy young bees dish which has just been cut down. It will be gently sweet in the tip of the tongue. Moreover, you can buy pure honey of U Minh indigo forests to use as medicine, or gifts for relatives.
After the through-the-forest trips, you can go seeing fish catching or spread a net by yourself, trying to be a fish man, picking wild vegetables, water lilies …and then enjoy many special dishes of U Minh indigo forest.
Some of famous dishes that you can not ignore are grilled fish, anabas cooked with fish sauce, eel simmered with some special leaves, tiger snake cooked with green bean rice gruel or stewed with citronella, fried field mice and many other distinctive dishes. It would be a little strange cuisine to foreign tourists, however, you will regret if you miss tasting these dishes.
Coming to the U Minh Ha mangrove indigo forest, tourists are visiting the home of Ba Phi uncle, a famous character in Vietnam folk stories treasure. When the night falls, visitors can also join traditional music performance, go fishing by flashlight, catch field-mice or spread bird netting in U Minh Forest.
