Normally, in the tour journey from Pleiku to Kon Tum, many groups will stop at T’Nung lake for a visit. This landmark is so gorgeous and it will be more attractive when you get there in the early morning when the sun does not rise so high. In the coldness of highland, when seeing the sunlight reflecting in the lake, you will feel like that you are getting lost in the peaceful place.
Introduction of the lake
The name of T’Nung lake means that sea on the mountain. It is also called Ia Nueng lake. It is located on the north of Gia Lai and far from the center of Pleiku city about 7km. It is in Bien Ho commune, Pleiku city, Gia Lai province.
Local people often call this lake Bien Ho because its area is so wide, up tp 230ha. It is surrounded by pine forests and mountains. In the rainy season, the water surface can expand over 400ha so discovering the lake is very interesting. The depth of the lake is also appealing as it can be deep up to 30m. It will take tourists many days to visit the whole lake.
On November 16, 1988, Bien Ho was recognized as the landscape relic by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Although until this time, the potentials of this lake has been exploited, the strangely wild beauty lures more and more tourists to come.
Interesting story about the lake
T’Nung is the name of the village. The story put in the journey makes tourists more curious. Once upon a time, there was a village named T’Nung. All women and men in the village were beautiful and they lived happily together. And then, one day, it rained heavily during many days. From the underground is the vocalno’s eruption and its fire poured down to the village. In a short time, the whole village was just the deep hole. The survivals standed around that hole to mourn and their tears filled up the hole and turned it into T’Nung like today.
Taking a visit arouns the lake
In two side of the road to T’Nung lake are lines of pine trees shading all day. Thus, the turtuous road is very cool even when there is the tough sunshine. Forest to forest and sunlight sparkling lake awakes an indescribable emontion for tourists. When standing on the high and firm house, tourists can see overview of the lake from different views.
However, that is just the external beauty of the lake. To continue the journey, tourists can get on a boat to float on the lake. The boat will take you through deep inside the forest to discover the wonder of mountains and forest and see many natural kinds of birds living in this landmark. They are flying freely as if they do not be afraid of human. A vairty of blooming colorful flowers make the lake more lively. More than that, just with a fishing rod, you can easily catch the fish in the lake.
If continuing to go inside the forest, tourists can see the villages of Ba Na, Gai Rai ethnic groups. These villages are typical symbols of Tay Nguyen for mainly living on the resources of T’Nung lake. They are also very friendly and hospitable. If you like, you can stay overnight with them to burn fire as well as enjoy the fried fish you catched from T’Nung lake and drink local wine (wine drunk out of a jar through pipes).
If you do not take this visit, you can continue to step on the staircases to go to the firmly built house to visit. Here, you can see the panorama of immense lake steeped in the sunshine.
